Beginning Season

Trinity University’s softball team is off to a decent start to their season.  They played four games over this past weekend and two games this week, bringing them to a total of six games so far.  The team currently breaks even with a record of 3-3.

All of their games so far have been played at Trinity.  Therefore this weekend they face a challenge as they will play their first games away from their home field.  They travel to Austin, Texas to play two games against Concordia University.  The team has faced Concordia twice this season already.  They unfortunately lost both games but hope to come back and win this time.

The girls on the TU softball team are all very excited that season is finally here.  They have worked long and hard and hope their work pays off to give them a significantly better win-loss record than last year.  They all feel that this goal is definitely within their reach. 

Selena Collins, the new head coach as of this year, is extremely pleased with her team.  She believes they have a lot of potential to finish off the season with a fantastic record and even have a chance at winning conference.  The girls on the team are thankful for Coach Collins and believe that she has done an amazing job with them so far.

With their season barely beginning, the girls still have a long way to go.  They look forward to their upcoming games with much anticipation.  The best of luck is wished to TU softball.

Winter Weather: An Obstacle

Life as a Trinity Softball player is just beginning.  The anticipation for our spring games to begin has been at a peak since returning from winter break.  The entire team has been training hard for the spring season which kicks off next Saturday, February 12, with our first game against Howard Payne.




We have had to face several challenges throughout fall such as limited practice time, but the biggest obstacle for us now is San Antonio’s current bitter weather.  Outdoor practices are vital for a softball team in order to improve.  However practicing outside in the below-freezing weather is almost completely inefficient.  We have managed to bundle up during practices in layers of clothing in attempt to “tough it out,” but there has also been several wet or freezing days which have proven impossible for us to hold a productive outdoor practice.  Indoor practices easily replace field practices but at what cost?  Attempting to play softball indoors is simply not nearly as competent as a normal, outdoor field practice would be if the weather permits.

The challenge that we TU Softball players face in the near future is will the weather warm up enough in time for our upcoming games next weekend?  With weather being an uncontrollable element, the best we can do is hope.

Head Coach Selena Collins is doing everything in her power to ensure that the softball field is being kept in the best possible condition against the chance of rain.  We own a tarp that covers our field and protects it against wet weather.  We have been setting up our tarp almost daily to keep our field in the best potential state that we have control of.  Coach Collins also made sure that we softball players all received winter parkas and sweat suit outfits representing Trinity Softball.  The purpose of this is to keep us warm on those days we do have to bear through the extreme weather during an outdoor practice or game.
